May 20, 2010.
This is me looking hot before one of our baseball games. Clearly I am going to play the sport and not pick up men.
I have no interest in being a journalist when I grow up, mainly because my writing interests are more creative than investigative. However, I do like researching freelance articles from time to time because I get to meet people I would’ve never talked to before, and go places I would never even thought to have visited. My piece on Gastown/Chinatown has opened me up to a whole new side of Vancouver, and placed me on the phone with some very interesting people.
Being still very fresh to this city, it feels like I am starting from scratch with each new piece I write. If I was given an assignment in Winnipeg, it would only be a matter of seconds before I knew exactly who I was going to call and when they’d be available. Here, I sit in front of an empty address book and add people to Facebook I haven’t talked to in years. It is good though – I like a challenge.
Since finishing at Starbucks, I have poured myself into projects that have been sitting on hold since I moved here. One of the first matters of business I started to work on – is a digital portfolio for myself. Everyday I am contacting new people via email to interview them, and I have nothing posted online to support the fact I am a writer. Granted there is always Rugged Fox, except I feel most times it is in my best professional interests not to share this link. Goodness knows, this site might not always make the best first impression with someone! “Hi I’m Sean and last night I had a threesome with Benson and Hedges.”
On that though, as soon as my portfolio is posted, I am going to start work right away redesigning this site … again. I know! I know! I have decided that I need to brand Rugged Fox – and right now I am doing a horrible job at it. How is one supposed to know anything about this site – from the current template I am using? I need pictures of empty bottles of red wine, images of expensive skin products and fabulous wardrobe pieces displayed. Plans I have! Plans.
Anyways, just wanted to drop in to update you on what-sup. I am off to the gym and then an art gallery tour downtown and then an open house at the Vancouver Film School! A big day! A big day indeed.
